This talk will be presented by James Payne, Executive Director at Fort Walla Walla Museum to introduce the new exhibit.
Many people from the Walla Walla area served in World War I and World War II. The Fort Walla Walla Museum collection is rich with artifacts and photographs that document these contributions to our freedom. A number of local men served in the 146th Field Artillery, one of the most active artillery units during WWI. Other locals fought in Infantry and Marine Corps regiments and the Museum recently acquired material associated with a local WWI submariner. Walla Walla was a significant place during the Second World War. In addition to an army air base and hospital in town, German POWs were housed at the Fairgrounds. Local men & women served the war effort in many ways. Stories about the brave and patriotic souls will be shared as an introduction to the Museum’s latest major exhibit, Walla Walla and the World Wars.
