Lyman Persico, Assistant Professor of Geomorphology at Whitman College, will be giving a talk about the geologic history of one of our national treasures--Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone means many things to many people. Towering geysers, bison, super volcanoes, waterfalls, and wolves are all images that are conjured when thinking about Yellowstone. But what really is Yellowstone and what makes it special? In this presentation, Lyman Persico will describe the unique geologic circumstances that have set the stage for Yellowstone and discuss how the geology, biology, and climate of Yellowstone are intimately connected. Finally, he will end with a discussion of what climate change means for the world’s first National Park.

This discussion is free and open to the public.
